MiniCPM Spark Program Launch

๐Ÿ‘‹ Hi, all you brilliant developers!

The OpenBMB open-source community has always been focused on one thing: packing stronger model capabilities into smaller, more efficient, easier-to-deploy models, so that AI can truly make its way into real applications.

From text to multimodal to speech, from on-device deployment to real-time interaction, the MiniCPM series is covering more and more application scenarios:

MiniCPM offers outstanding all-round capability and suits on-device, local AI, Agent, knowledge base, coding, fine-tuning and low-resource deployment scenarios; MiniCPM-V brings high-quality image-text understanding, OCR, and document and screenshot analysis to lightweight multimodal applications; MiniCPM-o targets real-time omnimodal interaction that fuses speech, vision and text; VoxCPM brings natural speech synthesis, voice cloning and multilingual expression into production-ready application pipelines.

But a model's value lies not only in leaderboards and parameter counts โ€” it also lies in every real application that actually runs on it.

This time, we are launching the MiniCPM Spark Program, an ongoing call for developers' real application cases, usage experience, technical practices and distilled methodologies built on the MiniCPM series of models. We especially look forward to cases that don't just "run", but have a real chance to become products, serve customer scenarios and reach commercial deployment.

High-quality cases and experience write-ups will be included in the application case collection of the official OpenBMB knowledge base, and will receive promotion through official channels, technical support, access to future model beta testing, priority invitations to community events, and more co-creation opportunities.

๐Ÿงฉ Theme 1: "Bring Model Capabilities into the Real World"โ€‹

This theme is for real application cases built on the MiniCPM series, focusing on how the model solves problems in concrete scenarios and goes further into products, customer scenarios and commercial deployment.

Whether it's a complete product or a demo that illustrates the point, as long as it is genuinely runnable, scenario-specific and able to demonstrate results, it deserves to be seen.

You are free to build around your own application scenario, or pick a direction based on the model capabilities below:

Model typeSuitable directionsExample cases
MiniCPM textText understanding, generation, Agents, tool calling, knowledge basesLocal knowledge base assistant, Agent / MCP tool calling, AI IDE plugin, lightweight task assistant, role-play fine-tuned application
MiniCPM-V multimodalImage-text understanding, OCR, visual question answering, screenshot / document / chart analysisReceipt recognition, courseware Q&A, web screenshot understanding, industrial quality-inspection assistance, visual knowledge base
MiniCPM-o omnimodalEnd-to-end interaction fusing speech, vision and textReal-time multimodal assistant, spoken Q&A about images, embodied AI interaction, in-vehicle / robot / on-device omnimodal demos
VoxCPM speechSpeech synthesis, voice cloning, multilingual expression, voice interactionAI podcasts, voice assistants, real-time translation, digital-human dubbing, content creation tools

Turn Your Ideas into Actions.

๐Ÿชจ Theme 2: "Pass Practical Experience On to Those Who Follow"โ€‹

This theme is for the experience developers have accumulated while using the MiniCPM series, focusing on real methods and key conclusions from getting started, deployment, fine-tuning, tuning, evaluation and productization.

You don't necessarily need to submit a complete application. As long as your content is real, specific, reproducible and reusable, and helps others avoid detours, it is valuable practical experience.

Submissions on the following topics are welcome:

  • Getting-started tutorials: model selection, environment setup, how to run, toolchains and development workflow;
  • Deployment optimization: on-device or local deployment, quantization, inference acceleration, VRAM (GPU memory) and resource optimization;
  • Fine-tuning practice: data construction, training methods, parameter choices, result comparisons and the iteration process;
  • Evaluation and analysis: evaluation methods, experimental setup, benchmark comparisons, capability boundaries and failure cases;
  • Retrospectives: problem diagnosis, how it was solved, pitfalls encountered, key conclusions and reusable methods.

Turn Your Experience into Impact.

๐Ÿ‘‹ How to Participateโ€‹

Whether you've built a runnable application with the MiniCPM series, or distilled reusable technical practice from getting started, deploying, fine-tuning, optimizing or evaluating, you're welcome to submit it to us through the submission form: ๐Ÿ‘‰ Submit now

๐ŸŒŸ Theme 1: Project case submissions ("results") Please try to include:

  • Name and summary: what concrete problem the application solves;
  • Model and scenario: which MiniCPM series models are used, and in what scenario;
  • Implementation: which capabilities the model provides, and how the application is designed and implemented;
  • Results and effects: actual performance, comparison data, user feedback or business validation;
  • Deliverables and reproduction: GitHub repository, runnable demo, configuration instructions, and demo videos or screenshots.

๐Ÿ”ง Theme 2: Experience-sharing submissions ("insights and methods") Please try to include:

  • Topic and abstract: what experience you want to share, and what problems it helps readers solve;
  • Model and scenario: which MiniCPM series models are involved, and what usage scenarios they apply to;
  • Practice process: the methods, tools, configurations or key steps you used;
  • Lessons and conclusions: effective practices, result comparisons, benchmarks, pitfalls, failure cases or limitations;
  • Shared materials: articles, GitHub, Hugging Face, code, configs, data descriptions or other public links.

If you haven't fully settled on a topic yet, feel free to contact our staff or join the official community group first. We'll provide technical support and promotion assistance based on your direction; once your case takes shape, submit it formally through the submission form.

๐Ÿ“… Timelineโ€‹

The MiniCPM Spark Program is open on an ongoing basis.

We will keep following and collecting outstanding application cases and distilled experience based on MiniCPM text, MiniCPM-V, MiniCPM-o and VoxCPM, and will regularly announce selected content and review results through the official community group ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ† Community Incentivesโ€‹

๐Ÿงฉ Theme 1 | Awards and Judging Criteriaโ€‹

Through this theme, we hope to find, over the long term, people who genuinely want to put MiniCPM into real applications. Great cases won't just be collected โ€” they'll be refined, promoted and showcased long-term together with the official team. If your project is close to productization, or is being validated with customers, industries or business workflows, we'd very much like to work with you to bring it to larger application scenarios.

๐Ÿชจ Theme 2 | Awards and Judging Criteriaโ€‹

Through this theme, we hope to connect over the long term with hardcore developers willing to share genuine insights. It's not limited to written content โ€” we also warmly welcome multimedia tutorials such as videos and podcasts. Based on the content's technical depth, reproducibility (tutorial quality) and reach, we have redefined the awards into the following three categories:

Awards and judging criteria in the MiniCPM Spark Program community incentives: three awards โ€” 01 Navigator Mentor Award, 02 Shining Practice Award and 03 Ignition Pathfinder Award. The Navigator Mentor Award targets in-depth practice and tutorials around MiniCPM models; the Shining Practice Award focuses on high-quality topical content in vertical directions, judged on technical breakdowns, benchmarks and similar aspects; the Ignition Pathfinder Award targets lighter, work-in-progress write-ups, judged on core value and real details.

We warmly welcome developers to publish their work on GitHub, WeChat Official Accounts, Bilibili, Zhihu, Juejin, CSDN, X, Linux.do, Xiaohongshu, YouTube or other public platforms. We will give priority to cases and blog posts that are real, specific, include screenshots / videos / project links, and tell an application story.
